Safeguarding Children

1. Policy Statement

Clinical Training FC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers, coaches, and parents to share this commitment.

We believe that:

  • The welfare of children is paramount.

  • All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or background, have the right to protection from abuse.

  • Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

Clinical Training FC recognises its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children involved in football at our club in accordance with guidance from the The Football Association and Sussex County FA.

2. Purpose Of The Policy

The purpose of this safeguarding policy is to:

  • Protect children and young people who participate in football activities at Clinical Training FC.

  • Provide staff and volunteers with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.

  • Ensure a safe and positive environment for all participants.

3. Who This Policy Applies To:

This policy applies to:

  • Coaches and assistant coaches

  • Team managers

  • Club officials

  • Volunteers

  • Parents/guardians

  • Players

  • Any other individuals involved with the club

All adults working with children must adhere to this safeguarding policy.

4. Safeguarding Principles

Clinical Training FC will safeguard children by:

  • Prioritising the welfare of children.

  • Ensuring all coaches and volunteers complete appropriate safeguarding training.

  • Ensuring all relevant personnel hold a valid DBS check.

  • Appointing a Club Welfare Officer (CWO) responsible for safeguarding.

  • Providing clear procedures for reporting concerns.

  • Creating a safe and inclusive environment.

  • Ensuring appropriate supervision at training and matches.

5. Club Welfare Officer

Clinical Training FC will appoint a Club Welfare Officer (CWO) who is responsible for safeguarding matters.

The CWO will:

  • Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns.

  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.

  • Liaise with Sussex FA safeguarding team where necessary.

  • Maintain safeguarding records confidentially.

  • Promote safeguarding awareness within the club.

6. Safe Recruitment

Clinical Training FC ensures safe recruitment of staff and volunteers by:

  • Conducting Enhanced DBS checks where required.

  • Completing safeguarding training approved by The FA.

  • Ensuring individuals understand safeguarding responsibilities.

  • Following FA safer recruitment guidelines.

7. Codes Of Conduct

Clinical Training FC expects all participants to adhere to codes of conduct covering:

  • Coaches and managers

  • Players

  • Parents and spectators

  • Club officials

These codes promote respectful behaviour and safe practice.

8. Responding To Safeguarding Concerns

All safeguarding concerns must be taken seriously.

If someone is worried about a child:

  1. Listen carefully

  2. Do not promise confidentiality

  3. Record the information

  4. Report immediately to the Club Welfare Officer

If the concern involves the CWO, contact Sussex FA safeguarding team directly via safeguarding@sussexfa.com or 01903 753547 select safeguarding extension.  

In cases of immediate danger, contact:

  • Police – 999

  • Children's Services

9. Types Of Abuse

Clinical Training FC recognises the following forms of abuse:

  • Physical abuse

  • Emotional abuse

  • Sexual abuse

  • Neglect

  • Bullying (including online)

All concerns must be reported following safeguarding procedures.

10. Photography & Social Media

Clinical Training FC will:

  • Obtain parental consent for photography.

  • Ensure images are used appropriately.

  • Follow FA guidance on social media use.

Adults must not communicate privately with players through personal social media accounts.

11. Transporting Children

Where transport is required:

  • Parents remain responsible for their child's transport.

  • Coaches should avoid transporting players alone.

  • Where transport is necessary, parental consent must be obtained.

12. Training & Awareness

Clinical Training FC will ensure that:

  • All coaches complete FA Safeguarding Children training.

  • Safeguarding policies are reviewed annually.

  • Volunteers are aware of reporting procedures.

13. Policy Review

This safeguarding policy will be reviewed annually.
